Amatheon Agri Uganda Ltd is seeking 2 highly motivated, dynamic individuals to fill the positions of Assistant Farm Manager/Section Manager at the company‘s 5000ha farm in Nwoya, Northern Uganda.

Position Description

The Assistant Farm Manager/Section Manager will plan, coordinate, timeously execute and control cropping operations on the farm/section by effectively utilising all the available resources as per approved production and financial plans. The work will include directing and training of farm assistants, operators, and such other duties as may occur from time to time. The Assistant Farm Manager/Section Manager is required to report and to assist the Farm Operations Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Being an active part of the management team, disciplined, structured, willing and able to take over responsibility. You will assist operations management with the completion of annual budgets and Monthly budget monitoring.
  • Being able to plan the agricultural season, the requirements of specific crops and the day to day work schedule for subordinates in detail.
  • Being able to communicate and coordinate required interactions between workshop unit, stores, general administration and cropping department.
  • Ensure that all equipment, implements, tractors and machinery are correctly calibrated and prepared ahead of all field operations.
  • Schedule for maintenance, use and cleaning of stores and storage equipment.
  • Ensure that all field records are kept well by farm management.
  • Coordinate and execute planting, chemical application, fertilization and harvesting on over 1000ha timeously to achieve budgeted crop yields.
  • Determine procedural changes in drying, grading and storage of grain, minimise wastage in harvesting and post-harvest handling.
  • Being able to inspect equipment like warehouse commercial dryers, implements and tractors to ensure proper functioning.
  • Train graduate interns and ensure skills transfer on best agronomy practices including but not limited to machinery use, farm planning, pesticide and herbicide application.
  • Execute the planting, fertilizing, spraying, cultivation an harvest procedures of crops.
  • Enforce safety regulations on the farm premises and fields.
  • Hire, supervise and discharge temporary labour.
  • Supervise juniors.
  • Responsibility to directly manage labour on the section farm and ensure performance is on target.
  • Be fully accountable for all operations on the cluster farm of deployment.

Required Skills and Experiences

  • A minimum of a Diploma in Agricultural Science majoring in crop science or its equivalent.
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture or its equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ practical farming experience on a 1000ha farm and above.
  • Experience working with agricultural machinery and implements like planters, tractors, sprayers, combine harvesters etc.
  • Evidence of farm operations management
  • Fluent reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Computer literacy skills in Ms word, Ms Excel, and Internet.
  • Intercultural competence a must.
  • Must be assertive but diplomatic.
  • Mature with high degree of Integrity.

Amatheon Agri Uganda Ltd is seeking a self-motivated, innovative individual to take on the position of an Agronomy Intern at the company‘s 5000ha farm in Nwoya, Northern Uganda.

Responsibilities

The Agronomy Intern will be responsible for raising high quality profitable crops through routine scouting, soil sampling and timely reporting. Moreover, the Agronomy Intern will:

  • be an active part of the team, disciplined, structured, willing and able to take over responsibility and to assist operations management.
  • need to be able to plan test trials, to prepare a scouting program for the agricultural season dependent on the requirements of specific crops.
  • conduct trials on different crops according to presented and agreed plan, including seeding, cultivating, spraying, weeding, and harvesting.
  • undertake systematic crop scouting on the company’s vast farms to identify pests, diseases and other effects of vagaries of weather on crops.
  • establish and maintain test plots by examining the effects of seed treatment, agricultural chemicals and fertilizers.
  • manage casual labourers on the trial blocks and ensuring costs are kept low.
  • assist in the conduct of field marking and mapping.
  • monitor seed placement, seed spacing during planting operations and seed evaluation.
  • compile data and submit reports on crop health to the Farm Operations Manager.

Required Skills and Experiences

  • A minimum of a Diploma in crop production.
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture or its equivalent is an added advantage.
  • Experience in running crop trials.
  • Demostrated hands on experience in crop research and development.
  • Fluent reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Possession of a valid riding licence class ‘A’.
  • Computer literacy skills in Ms word, Ms Excel, and Internet.
  • Must be assertive but diplomatic.
  • Mature with high degree of integrity.
  • Ability to manage a diverse team.
